Go ahead and do it. Break one of the main rules in photography that says you should never shoot into the sun. Rules Rules….were designed to be broken. Right? Yes it is helpful to know some of the more common rules for composition to create a nice photograph. However sometimes in photography breaking the rules works and other times not.
Next time you have a truly bright sun take a shot and see what you get – sometimes an overexposed photo that just goes black and white on you but other times you’ll be rewarded with a dramatic image.
The best times of day to do this are either early or late in the day. You’ll want to bracket your shot meaning take several different exposures. Mostly you’ll be underexposing to get the sun sun’s rays to stand out for a sun spray. If the sun is really bright find a foreground object to hide the sun behind. Come break the rules with us on any of our Blue Hawaii Photo Tours on O’ahu.
